Mystery Babylon: Why That Great City In Revelation Is Jereuselm - Not The Vatican or The Catholic Church
Share
Too many preachers, prophecy teachers, and Zionist shills point their finger at Rome, the Vatican, or the Catholic Church as “Mystery Babylon.” But the Bible doesn’t say that. The Word of God is crystal clear — Mystery Babylon is Jerusalem in her apostate, Christ-rejecting state at the end of the age.
Let’s lay out the evidence.
1. “That Great City” is Jerusalem
Revelation repeatedly identifies Mystery Babylon as “that great city.” John even tells us plainly which city this is:
Revelation 11:8 — “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
Where was Jesus crucified? Jerusalem. That’s the great city. That’s the harlot. Not Rome. Not New York. Not the Vatican. The city that shed the blood of Christ is the same city that will be judged in fire as Mystery Babylon.
2. The City That Kills the Prophets
Jesus Himself identified Jerusalem as the city that kills God’s messengers:
Matthew 23:37 — “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee…”
Luke 13:33–34 — “It cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem…”
This matches Revelation’s description of Babylon, the harlot who is “drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus” (Revelation 17:6). The Vatican never killed the Old Testament prophets. Jerusalem did.
3. The Harlot vs. the Bride
Revelation contrasts two women:
The harlot city (Jerusalem in rebellion)
The bride (the New Jerusalem, the Church of Christ)
Jerusalem was once called the faithful wife of God by, but in her apostasy, she became a harlot (see Isaiah 1:21, Ezekiel 16, Jeremiah 3:6–8). Revelation picks up this prophetic imagery, showing that the harlot rides the beast and fornicates with the kings of the earth.
Only Jerusalem fits this Old Testament pattern of a covenant wife turned adulteress. Rome was never God’s covenant bride.
4. The End-Times Judgment of Jerusalem
The prophets foretold that Jerusalem would face end-time destruction because of her sins:
Zechariah 14:1–2 — The nations gather against Jerusalem in the last days.
Ezekiel 16:35–41 — The unfaithful wife is judged and stripped bare.
Isaiah 1:21–24 — The “faithful city” has become a harlot.
This perfectly aligns with Revelation 17–18, where Babylon the Great is burned with fire and the merchants of the earth weep over her fall.
5. Post-Trib Context — The Final Showdown
This isn’t history. This is future. Mystery Babylon is destroyed right before Christ returns in glory. The saints are still being persecuted during this time (Revelation 13:7), and only after the tribulation does Christ return to avenge their blood (Matthew 24:29–30).
This means the judgment of Babylon happens in the end times, just before the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19). Jerusalem will face her final reckoning for rejecting the Messiah and persecuting His people.
6. Zionism’s Lie Exposed
Modern Christian Zionism flips this truth upside down. It teaches that we must bless and defend the state of Israel at all costs. But Scripture says:
The earthly city is in bondage with her children (Galatians 4:25).
Only those in Christ are the children of promise (Galatians 3:29).
Jerusalem in the flesh persecutes the true Israel of God — the Church (Galatians 4:29).
Zionism deceives Christians into supporting the very city that Revelation calls “Mystery Babylon.”
Conclusion
The evidence is overwhelming:
The great city where Christ was crucified = Jerusalem (Rev. 11:8).
The city guilty of killing the prophets = Jerusalem (Matt. 23:37).
The harlot wife imagery = Jerusalem (Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah).
The final destruction = end-time Jerusalem (Rev. 17–18).
Mystery Babylon is not Rome. It’s not the Vatican. It’s Jerusalem — the apostate city drunk on the blood of the prophets, the saints, and of Jesus Himself.
Her destruction is future. Her judgment is certain. And her exposure is urgent.
